Preview: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

Review:

We get the same thing nearly every year there's a Pirates movie. It's like a teaser, but enough to excite the Pirates-loving masses.

THis is a fine specimen for how to sell a pre-sold blockbuster. You aren't going to find new fans with this, but the existing ones will be very enthused to look at it in detail and try to recognize how many parts of the film are in the poster.

Review:

For those who are fans of Johnny Depp's drunken pirate, this will come as a great teaser. For those who learned in the second film that too much Jack makes for a somewhat tedious film, this will not be very enticing.

A slight re-edit of the first trailer with a handful of new images and more plot details does not add anything measurably to the trailer. It still looks like all of the previous films without Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley.

Oscar Prospects:

Tech awards are all that will be in store for the film, if any.
