Preview: There Be Dragons (2011)

Synopsis:

A journlist investigating the life of a candidate for canonization in the Catholic Church discovers his own father's devestating involvement in the potential saint's life during the Spanish Civil War.

Review:

The latest trend in poster design seems to create a large space in the upper half of the poster, which really doesn't give the audience a lot to look at. It may draw the eye better to anything written in that area, but most people won't even look if they aren't drawn to something, which this poster does not have.

  • Trailer: B

Review:

Roland Joffé hasn't made a lot of movies since the trailer-referenced Mission and Killing Fields back in the mid-'80s. So, it's hard to tell whether this will be a truly good movie. The premise seems most interesting and the cast doesn't look bad, but releasing in May seems a poor choice.

Oscar Prospects:

If it weren't releasing in May, I might suggest this one has Oscar potential, but at this rate, the only areas it can hope for are in the tech categories.
