Preview: Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012)

Hoping to find a sanctuary to explore their vast lives away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, a group of aging tourists find sanctuary in a rundown hotel catering to their unique expectations.

So many marigolds that it seems to unnecessary. There are times when you want to over-accentuate your title in the poster, but there are others, like this, where a minimalist approach might have yielded better results. Still, it's abundance of color may draw enough interest to make it a useful sales tool.

The original poster does not appear to be around anymore, but this second design isn't much better. Highlighting a bunch of actors who aren't exactly box office draws may appeal to some crowds, but not enough to make this a minor success.

When you have this many talented actors (Dev Patel excluded) in one film, you can't help but have a great deal of fun along with them. The film might not be very good overall, but at least you know you'll have a master class of actors giving you their all.

Oscar Prospects:

A March release is usually a death knell for this kind of picture, so I don't know that it will be remembered in January of 2013. However, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith or Bill Nighy could pick up a career Oscar nomination for this.
