Perhaps too simple for what it is, this design does a superb job depicting simply the themes of the film. The problem is no one is going to look at this poster and decide they want to see the film.

I'm a big Paul Thomas Anderson film. I love all of the films of his that I've seen; however, this dour film looks rather inconspicuous by comparison. Amy Adams doesn't look like she's doing much in the way of acting and Joaquin Phoenix seems to be going the excessive route like his PTA predecessor.

Oscar Prospects:

There will always be talk about Anderson's films, but from the looks of the trailer, this doesn't look to be one of his more complicated films. Certainly Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman seem destined for Oscar nominations even if the film doesn't manifest in Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Editing, Original Score or Cinematography. From this trialer, my impression is that Adams will be an Oscar no-show, but it's possible her best work is not on the screen.
