It's stylish, but not exciting. It has an appeal that is entirely superficial, which may be sufficient to draw its target audience.

Mario Van Peebles has an uneven history of filmmaking dating back to his feature directing debut on 1991's New Jack City. Since then, he's barely made a blip on critics' or audiences radars. This looks like a cross between Spike Lee and John Singleton, but without the hype or excess.
