Preview: Won't Back Down (2012)

Suffering through a school system less interested in teaching students, a pair of mothers with struggling children, band together to try and take back their children's education system by starting up their own school.

  • Poster: C-

The attempt to push this as a heart-warming film about strong mothers is only slightly supported by this poster. They are certainly heart-warming figures...but there's no other clue what kind of film this is, which could post problems in trying to market it.

  • Trailer: C+

In spite of the glorious talent on display, the trailer makes the film look like a soapy, life-affirming film that's been so sanitized and goosed for maximum emotional impact that it's been drained of any foresight, creativity or politicism. It will appeal to the same folks that made films like Crash and The Blind Side popular...

Oscar Prospects:

Although the trailer makes me think that the film will be completely ignored, you can't count out Viola Davis who seems to be on a hot streak of late and after her narrow defeat at the hands of pal Meryl Streep last year, there will likely be a push to give her another nomination.
