Preview: Wrath of the Titans (2012)

The sequel to 2010's successful remake of Clash of the Titans finds Perseus (Sam Worthington) embarking on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, who has been targeted for capture by his traitorous son, Ares, and his brother, Hades.

(The first film had a somewhat stylish poster, but this sequel's key art seems haphazard, almost thrown together at the last minute. And that awful tagline? If that doesn't sink the ship, nothing will.)

This new design, eliminating the previous, does a much better job embodying the epic scope of the film and making it look more exciting than it probably is. That's the proper method of selling this type of film.

  • Trailer: C- / B-

If it weren't for the "Sweet Dreams" cover, this trailer would be a hackneyed failure. Too much action, too much posing and a terrible not-Greek accent only serve to showcase how ill-advised this sequel was in the first place.

The first trailer had me cringing at just how lamentable this attempt at sequelizing Clash of the Titans was. Yet, this second preview ratchets up the action and makes it look like an entertaining fireball of fluff that should appeal to the target demo they most hope to draw in.
