After the success of last week’s Identify the Poster game, I’ve decided to expand our game selection on Fridays and change the name to Film Fun Friday. The change will mean I can present a wider selection of games for everyone to enjoy. Some will still require the use of SPOILER tags ([.spoiler.][./.spoiler.] without the periods), while others can be played out in comments between users as they find new routes.

Game: Identify the Poster

We will kick things off with our Identify the Poster challenges. This week, we introduce a new type of poster challenge. I will be rotating between the three types already seen and other styles every week.

Game: Film Mash-Up

These games will take famous quotes, film titles or characters and combine them into a single phrase. Your task is to identify which films are being discussed and break the Mash-Up apart. This week’s Mash-Up will be rather easy.

The Haumburgers Have Eyes

Game: Six Degrees of Oscar Separation

Poor Kevin Bacon has never been nominated for an Academy Award. In his honor, we adapt his famed party game to something a little more challenging. Each week, we will present two Oscar nominees. Your task will be to connect the individuals in question in as few steps as possible. There is one catch. The connection must be made through Oscar nominees (it doesn’t have to be a connection in an Oscar-nominated film, however). So, Kevin Bacon cannot be an intermediary between Sean Penn and Frank Langella. You are not restricted to actors alone, you may use directors, cinematographers and others.

I’m giving you both an example and an actual challenge (and, for bonus points, you can find more and/or better connections for my example). The actual challenge is going to be a bit rough and, as this is our inaugural game, it will feature one of the first Oscar winners and one of the most recent.

EXAMPLE
Connect Thelma Ritter to Ben Affleck

  • Thelma Ritter appeared in All About Eve with Bette Davis
  • Bette Davis appeared in Death on the Nile with Angela Lansbury
  • Angela Lansbury was in The Manchurian Candidate for which Richard Sylbert did the Production Design
  • Richard Sylbert was Production Designer on Dick Tracy in which Al Pacino appeared
  • Al Pacino also made an appearance in Gigli with Ben Affleck

CHALLENGE
Connect Janet Gaynor to Sandra Bullock

Game: Site Search

This game is fairly easy. If you’ve been reading our site, you should have no problem locating the answers to these kinds of questions.

QUESTION

Who said of Date Night: “The promise of Fey and Carrell together seems like it is made of gold, but the film just looks stale.”
