Review: (#1) Simple, but inelegant design that might appeal to fans of the stars or to older audiences, but unless you’re already familiar with the buzz from critics, this isn’t going to persuade you. (#2) A little more dazzling than the first, but still to forgettable. (#3) It’s very much like the first design in that no one but the initiated would likely care to see it.

Review: There’s a quiet desperation and weariness in the latter scenes of the trailer making this feel like a rather lugubrious film. If it weren’t for the cheesy use of “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” it might have been a more effective trailer.

Oscar Prospects:

Charlotte Rampling has earned several critics prizes and could be a dark horse candidate for a nomination, but competition is fierce and I don’t see the Academy feeling they owe her or her film anything since she seems to be the only one in contention. Of course, if she does well, the film could do well and pull in a few other nods including one for her co-star Tom Courtenay (a two-time Oscar nominee in lead for The Dresser and support for Doctor Zhivago) and for the screenplay.
