Review: (#1) A dark, murky design with limited detail and no substance. (#2) This gives the audience a palpable sense of fear, but there’s no frame of reference for that fear, not even an impending shark attack. (#3) The shark cage is so minuscule and the sharks so large that it doesn’t feel very realistic. It also doesn’t create the sense of dread it needs to. (#4) This is the closest attempt yet to convey terror, but the cheesy flashlight effect, which would be diffused by the ocean and the seemingly haphazard placement of the sharks generate too little realism to feel tense.

(#5) The sharks are circling and, as a result, we finally have a design that feels authentic and terrifying. In English this would be a great sales tool.

Trailer Rating: C / C-

Review: (#1) There are elements in the trailer that could have been spliced together to create a truly dread-filled trailer, but this design lacks some measure of suspense, even if there’s a modicum present.

(#2) There’s little rooting this film in reality in this trailer. We are too briefly introduced to the female leads or to the crew of the ship that sends them into the depths, nor does it explain much effort of resolution. That doesn’t increase the sense of fear.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
