Review: (#1) War paint applied by mechanical arm to human face is emblematic of the film’s premise, so it works. It’s not otherwise interesting. (#2) The star in a dull-looking, hazy setting. It doesn’t work. (#3) There are a lot of crisp details here and much of the background is interesting; however, the foreground character images are poorly assembled and laid out. (#4) Why they are trying to enhance the roller derby vibe is a question no one really cares for the answer to and when done so haphazardly as this, that increases the lack of concern. (#5-#14) These character posters have unique colors, but the bland backdrops only make them seem cheap. (#15) An IMAX poster that isn’t a waste of time is rare and this one is such a design even if the backdrop isn’t that interesting and the foreground isn’t terribly compelling. (#16) Neon blue and pink isn’t the most attractive combination of colors for a poster and this design just seems to feel like an attempt to be creative without the backing of creativity. (#17) Throw everything in without a detailed background and you get this hodge podge of nothingness.

Trailer Rating: B- / B-

Review: (#1) It’s hard to turn an anime into a live-action film without translating it in such a way that it connects to its subject matter with the barest minimum effort and this trailer does that.

(#2) For those who are fans of the anime style, this live-action film may have what you want. If you aren’t a fan, the presence of human figures won’t alleviate your lack of interest in the overall style and story framework of such films. This trailer might convince some, but not many.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
