Review: (#1) If you have to tease, do it with a tie-in to the prior film. That said, it’s a teaser, so it’s not terribly compelling as it is.

(#2) We finally have all the characters (that are left anyway) on one design as we head into the final Avengers movie of the generation that began just over ten years ago. Unfortunately, in that time, the designers haven’t found a way to create a becoming poster design. This is well-intentioned mess with lots of figures, but no interesting details and and utterly lackluster, almost garish, color scheme.

(#3-#34) This series of character posters, with all the characters lost to the “snap” in black-and-white is an interesting concept, but the designs themselves are rather dull. (#35) With the lost in shadow and the left behind above, it’s an interesting concept with a lot of detail, but not a lot of color. (#36) There’s not a lot to this and the background being so vacant isn’t that interesting. (#37-#41) This is an incomplete set of character posters, featuring only the men of the Avengers universe and looking out over a cheesily-done landscape of Shanghai, where the film is not, to my knowledge, set. (#42) The heavenly approach to the treatment of the now-disassembled characters is a bit tacky and not well executed. (#43) The art here is detailed, but it looks too rough and bulky to be appealing. (#44) It looks like a design that might have been made in the 1970s for a Star Wars film or some other fantasy creation. It’s interesting from that perspective only. (#45-#56) This set of character designs are more detailed than prior efforts, but they still feel overly generic with too much unnecessarily visual flair.

Trailer Rating: B / B+

Review: (#1) We know that this is likely the end of the line for the two characters who are at the center of this trailer, Captain America and Iron Man, but the somber tone feels less compelling here than it probably should. There are few attempts at humor, but that seems like a given. A better trailer has to be around the corner.

(#2) Instead of being just a chance for Iron Man to dominate the film, this trailer seems to want to highlight everyone in it. That said, there are some interesting moments and promise of exciting action, but the whole thing feels like it’s missing something (other than the dusted folk).

Oscar Prospects:

It will likely be a nominee for Best Visual Effects, but doesn’t have a lot of other prospects and a win seems unthinkable.
