Synopsis:

From IMDb: “As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”

Review: (#1) The Avengers symbol is familiar to fans of the franchise and that’s perfectly fine for a teaser poster, though the colors aren’t terribly appealing.

(#2) If you look close enough and long enough, you can find that at least one prominent Avenger got the shaft: Hawkeye. That kind of failure is a bit surprising and while that might not be enough to ruin the poster’s aesthetic, the heavy use of oranges, yellows, and reds gives it an almost sinister quality, not the combative and urgent quality they were likely intending.

(#3-#7) With so many characters available, it’s an interesting choice to pair several of them together for a series of five “character” posters with differing color schemes. The background is a bit bland, but it’s otherwise nice to see the variance. (#8) A solid, somewhat balanced design that just doesn’t excite. (#9) More of the same we’ve already seen, just for a different market. Not that impressive. (#10-#31) Every character gets their own poster and while that’s fine, the lack of variance in the background details (the same A in different positions and colors) doesn’t really service the designs well. If you want one of your favorite character, they are OK, but not great. (#32) We’ve seen it or similar before. Not exciting. (#33) Another terribly unimpressive space-oriented design that’s not really that exciting. (#34) More of the unimpressive same.

Trailer Rating: B / C+

Review: (#1) Plenty of action and excitement and sufficient references to each character we’ve come to know to please all the fans. There are a few troubling elements to the trailer that suggest this is going to have some very forced and frustrating moments, but for the most part, it will be interesting to see how things pan out.

(#2) Either superhero fatigue is setting in or the designers of these trailers are getting lazier and less interesting. There’s very little humor here and most of it is poor. There’s a lot of action, but very little in the way of compelling connective tissue.

Oscar Prospects:

Could be a Best Visual Effects nominee, but who knows for certain this far out.
