Synopsis:

From IMDb: “A spelling bee loser sets out to exact revenge by finding a loophole and attempting to win as an adult.”

Poster: B- / B (3)

Review: The four posters each use the pixelated blur effect, which isn’t particularly interesting. The first central design, with the mimicking of the first syllable of a four-letter expletive is interesting enough. The other three designs, once you get what their alternate names are, become quite a bit funnier. None of the designs really build into the spelling bee aspect of the film, they are just amusing puns for astute passers-by.

Trailer: C+

Review: Jason Bateman is a funny guy. He brings some humorous material to the trailer. However, the film reinforces every negative stereotype of paint-by-numbers comedy story writing that exist. You can ultimately predict exactly where the film is heading and the journey getting there doesn’t look that original either. Additionally, humor that’s directly hurtful is distracting and unnecessary and I doubt will mean this is much of a success.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
