Poster: C / B

Review: These two designs are worlds apart in terms of style and interest. The first design is a blown-up version of a single picture on display in the trailer. It may highlight the story’s protagonists in love, but it’s too difficult to see and look amateurish. The second design; however, is much more professional and while I’ve never been a fan of stark white backgrounds. The use of half-faces at the edge of the design add weight to the text in the middle which establishes quickly and easily the type of film you’re about to see.

Trailer: B+

Review: What looks to be a very moving portrait of a young pair of lovers ripped apart by tragedy should prove attractive to the demographic for which it’s intended, yet might appeal to those who are sympathetic to the cause. Don’t expect it to change many sheltered and unenthused minds.

Oscar Prospects:

The subject matter has particular resonance in today’s socially charged media environment and a well-made film about love and the challenges of supporting and nurturing that could sell well to the Academy’s documentary branch. It’s gotten some good press, but a full-blown media frenzy could propel it into the nomination race. Right now, I’m not sure it has a huge chance of a nomination.
