Review: (#1) A delightfully artistic design that carries a period essence in simple, yet visually astute terms. This is the kind of poster design we need to see more of.

(#2) From brilliant to awful, it’s surprising how quickly a film can go from creating something so stylish to something so bland and derivative. Here’s the perfect example.

Trailer Rating: C+ / C

Review: (#1) Unfortunately, the poster is the lone promotional tool with any creative verve. This trailer is lifeless, meandering and seemingly pointless.

(#2) If you can’t be bothered to make your film look better in your second trailer, why even create a second trailer. What’s worse is when the second trailer feels like an exact carbon copy of the prior trailer, which is entirely disappointing. Of course, this is the international trailer, not the domestic one, but still…the same trailer?

Oscar Prospects:

Woody’s Oscar chances are uneven, with plenty of opportunities missed. Long gone are the days of guaranteed writing nominations. However, if the film is any good, it could be in the competition.
