Review: (#1) The designers could just as easily have kept the spotlights uniform in color, but by putting patterns into them, they break up some of the monotony.

Review: A mother who uses her celebrity to organize pageants in the city has a young daughter who doesn’t adhere to the ideals of such events and wants to shake things up so that she can spend time with her mother. The idea isn’t new, isn’t entirely fresh, but is presented here earnestly even if a bit heavy-handedly.

Oscar Prospects:

Dolly Parton’s original song “Girl in the Movies” is a strong contender for an Oscar nomination, though it’s a film that the Academy isn’t likely to love. A nomination is possible, but a win is unlikely.
