Synopsis:

From IMDb: “A beautiful young woman maintains relationships with three very different men.”

Poster: C+ / B / B- / B

Review: Not your typical lavish poster design for a period drama, but missing the love quadrangle element of the story seems a disservice to those not familiar enough with it to want to give it a try.

(#2) The primary image is just a still from the film, but the background and foreground have been slightly touched up to embody the essence of a life-size work of art, a painting of compelling composition. (#3) It’s a step down from the prior design, it looks a bit like it could have been a painting, but it’s a close-up, romantic image that’s typically been overdone. (#4) I’ll give it credit for not look like every other period drama, but it’s almost a shade too simplistic, though conveying the concept of a love quadrangle is difficult.

Trailer: B / A-

Review: (#1) It isn’t obvious, but the film’s central character is clearly in love with three men and this drama will surely delve into the recriminations and jealousies that are inherent with such endeavors. The lovely song over the trailer’s length is a nice added touch.

(#2) For the costume drama crowd, this suddenly became one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year. Carey Mulligan looks utterly brilliant and the focus on sumptuous visuals helps propel the film forward in the heads of the viscerally minded.

Oscar Prospects:

Critics will have to fall in love with the film for it to get much consideration out of the standard costume drama tradition of Best Production Design and Best Costume Design nominations. It could also be a surprise Best Original Song nominee.
