Synopsis:

From IMDb: “When Mickey’s crazy stepson Leon is killed in a construction ‘accident’, nobody in the working class neighborhood of God’s Pocket is sorry he’s gone. Mickey tries to bury the bad news with the body, but when the boy’s mother demands the truth, Mickey finds himself stuck in a life and death struggle between a body he can’t bury, a wife he can’t please and a debt he can’t pay.”

Review: What does it all mean? It doesn’t appear to mean anything. It seems interested only in drawing in fans of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and adding “indie” cred with John Turturro.

Trailer: C-

Review: It’s unfortunate that Hoffman’s final film is one that looks like an unmitigated mess of a movie. Drawing heavily on genre tropes, but never looking to delve into the complexities the way Martin Scorsese might have, the producers seem intent on showing this as something of a black comedy.

Oscar Prospects:

There will, of course, be the requisite chatter for a posthumous Oscar nomination for Philip Seymour Hoffman. I just don’t think it’s going to materialize.
