Synopsis:

From IMDb: “On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne reports that his wife, Amy, has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?”

Poster: B / B (3)

Review: A serene poster that highlights the potential dumping ground of the wife in the story, but hints at the troubling events in the story.

(#2-#4) These three new designs take off on the prior poster’s motifs and add images that add depth and creativity, but don’t venture to new heights. They are visually appealing, but can easily be ignored.

Trailer: B / B+

Review: So many compelling elements on display in the trailer, its relatively conventional construction almost gets in the way. Here you have a group of amazing talents telling what looks like it might be a fascinating story and much more in David Fincher’s wheelhouse than The Social Network was.

(#2) While the first trailer paint this film as a whodunnit with a questionably-innocent protagonist, the second explores just how far afield the public will go when they suspect that the husband is the killer even when he may have nothing to do with it. This trailer heightens the tension and mystery, which should give it plenty of legs for those hoping for a nice, complex drama to while away an October afternoon.

Oscar Prospects:

David Fincher struggled with the Academy until he broke through with The Social Network. This mystery thriller shouldn’t be too hard for the Academy to take and could end up with quite a few nominations or possibly none all things depending.
