Trailer: C / B+

Review: It’s listed as “Almost Home” on the trailer page at Apple, so this is merely a teaser, but it easily establishes the film’s themes, color palette and overall vibe. It also highlights Steve Martin as the film’s self-centered protagonist. It has some funny moments, but it could have been a heck of a lot funnier. That could make it a tough sell to audiences if they don’t ramp up the humor in the first full trailer.

(#2) The droning chipper defeatism of the first trailer is replaced by a gentler, more exciting trailer with fun characters that look like they are bound for grand adventures. This is more on par with the DreamWorks we’ve grown accustomed to than the teaser trailer let on.

Oscar Prospects:

You can’t count it out as a potential Best Animated Feature nominee, though a win is doubtful, especially since it will be up against the likes How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Revisions:

(Jun. 15, 2014) New Trailer (#2)
