Synopsis:

From IMDb: “Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. The rest of Drac’s Pack cannot resist going along. But once they leave port, romance arises when Dracula meets the mysterious ship captain, Ericka. Now it’s Mavis’s turn to play the overprotective parent, keeping her dad and Ericka apart. Little do they know that his “too good to be true” love interest is actually a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, ancient nemesis to Dracula and all other monsters.”

Review: (#1) Shorts, flip-flops, and a tropical cape lining. It’s not quite subtle, but it’s not quite exciting either. (#2) Grumpy vampire in beach attire will appeal to fans of the series, which is all the studio really wants, but few others. The blank white background is lazy.

(#3) It’s not dissimilar from the first teaser posters with the floral print in the cloak lining along with a suitcase covered in amusing references to mysterious places, but it’s definitely not an improvement. (#4) A cruise ship where the sun is still setting below the boat and the moon is in full glory above it. Apart from that natural inconsistency, it’s an effective design. (#5) All of the familiar cast members are here and cheaply posed. It’s a design that will have some appeal to fans, but none to others.

(#6) The backdrop is ill-fitting, but the poses and props are fitting to the premise. (#7) The grump is evident, but the background is bland. (#8) The attempt to be clever is poorly executed. (#9-#16) this series of character posters isn’t very inspiring or sufficiently detailed.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B- / B

Review: (#1) If you have seen either of the prior two films, the characters will likely remind you why you enjoyed them. There’s plenty of juvenile humor on display and the situations seem perfect to re-attract those same viewers that made the film a success, even if no one else.

(#2) As much as I detest Adam Sandler, there has always been a certain creative charm to these Hotel Transylvania films, but seldom enough to draw me in. That said, fans of the series will certainly be enticed.

(#3) While the trailer doesn’t entirely consist of one long scene from the film, it might as well since it features a long sequence of elements from a plane ride, which can’t be too terribly long within the film itself. That said, it’s much funnier than I expected it to be, which should be a draw for people who are actually fans of this series.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
