Review: You can have all these stars, but you can’t look at them. Your trailer can invoke a maze them, but it’s resigned to filling a single letter of the title. I don’t think anyone would pay this one any mind.

Trailer: B / B+

Review: Hugh Jackman playing a seemingly normal character is a far stretch from his Wolverine and Jean Valjean personas. There’s still something overfly familiar in this drama and putting some admittedly talented actors into it may make it seem like solid moviemaking, it’s the script that matters, which doesn’t seem that original.

It’s hard to watch this second trailer without the influence of post-Telluride hype. This trailer certainly makes the film look a lot more complex and compelling than the first. More than a first-rate thriller, it looks more like a complex examination of fear and anger against the backdrop of a heinous crime. Who’s the culprit and will anyone escape with their dignity? Telluride + Trailer #2 = My interest confirmed.

Oscar Prospects:

If it’s a well respected, quality drama, everyone in the cast could be up for consideration. However, looking at the screenwriter’s prior film (Contraband) and the director’s lack of major output, I’m guessing they’ll sell it as an action film and forget about its Oscar chances, since it isn’t likely to have any.
