Release Date:

October 4, 2013

Synopsis:

From IMDb: “When a poor college student who cracks an online poker game goes bust, he arranges a face-to-face with the man he thinks cheated him, a sly offshore entrepreneur.”

Poster: C+

Review: This is a fine way to take a common poster style and spice it up a bit. It’s not an original design, but the color template is well selected and stylized.

Trailer: B- / C-

Review: It’s a premise that feels a touch out of date, but exemplifies the modern attempt to capitalize on the distrust of and inherent dislike of the uber-wealthy who gain their wealthy through duplicitous means. Ben Affleck looks like he’s having fun and Justin Timberlake could be a satisfactory protagonist. The film feels like something we’ve already seen before, but could be fresh enough to be appealing.

The designers went from cool, calculated excess to overbearing, overzealous claptrap. This new poster is anything but interesting and only serves to highlight the limitations of the material.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
