Review: (#1) Is she choking? She looks like she’s choking. Is it because of the rosary? Who the hell knows, this is The Conjuring not The Exorcist. Oh wait…then we do know and, as a result, it’s easy not to care.

(#2) We’ve seen the design many times before and it’s always precisely as effective and simultaneously non-effective. (#3) Fear is a powerful motivator, but when airbrushed and Photoshopped along with a dreadfully dull background, you get something not particularly scary.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1) Apart from the acknowledgement that these cases come from the incredible (entirely fictional) accounts of two (con artist) ghost hunters from the Northeast (the film doesn’t make this connection, but you just have to read up on them to find out the truth), this looks like your garden variety horror thriller with just a touch of style to make it look passable.

(#2) As much as I loathe the idea that two “psychic” shysters could have their fictionalized accounts turned into a successful series of films, this second trailer does make for a more interesting film, generating genuine frights this time out.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
