Synopsis:

From IMDb: “A story centered on an Indian family who moves to France and opens an eatery across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant run by Madame Mallory.”

Poster: B / C- / B-

Review: Apart from the layout of the trio of actors at the top of the posters, these two designs are largely different. Title color, background color and content are swapped between the two designs leaving the first design the more eye-catching one, highlighting the battle between two properties, one-hundred feet away perhaps? The second design makes it look like a comedy of sorts with a haphazard array of people showcasing culture clashes and romances, but not connecting as easily with the viewer.

(#3) I think the producers realized after they put out the first poster that they had made one critical error, they left off one of the film’s key players. Sure, having Helen Mirren’s a given and then having two attractive star-crossed lovers is important, but to leave off a critical romantic subplot with the neighbor and Mirren’s character seems a bit dishonest. This poster fixes that, but does it in such a ham-fisted and corny way.

Trailer: C+

Review: Giving off a faint Best Exotic Marigold Hotel vibe, this cooking dramedy has the benefit of Helen Mirren’s vast expertise, but with no whiff of inventiveness or originality, exploring the same cultural war games that have peppered so many films of the past.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
