Release Date:

Synopsis:

From IMDb: “Dave Skylark and his producer Aaron Rapoport run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.”

Poster: B

Review: There’s something almost brilliant about the satirical style of the poster the producers have selected for this film. It conjures images of various communist propaganda designs that have been employed over the year, which largely helps place the film in its proper context.

Trailer: C / B

Review: (#1) When you read the film’s description, you understand the origin of the film’s title. The trailer does a poor job putting forward that connection. The film also looks like a live-action version of Team America: World Police, except slightly more serious. That being said, there’s some potential here if audiences can look past the weirdness of it all.

(#2) A little more funny than the first trailer and establishing a more sensible plot, the producers seem only to want to push buttons of tension with North Korea. Thankfully, they fall short of referencing the real life threats issued from North Korean (which might just be a publicity stunt anyway). This could be much funnier than it at first appeared, however, the trailer doesn’t completely alleviate fears.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
