Synopsis:

From IMDb: “A family lives an idyllic existence abroad until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. The inconsolable mother learns of an ancient ritual that will bring him back to say a final goodbye. She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds. But when she disobeys a sacred warning to never open that door, she upsets the balance between life and death.”

Review: (#1) I’ll give it points for the creepy child and keyhole motif, but that’s as far as it’s creative or appropriate.

(#2) The grasping hands trying to rip open the door is an interesting conceit, but the execution is unrealistic and cheap-looking. (#3) A hand-drawn homage to all the great horror film posters of the past. It’s a strong effort to make the design feel a part of that period historically. (#4) It might seem creepy, but it’s a thoroughly lazy design.

Trailer Rating: C

Review: The dire warning, which we all know will not be met, is quickly forgotten and a hellish nightmare is unleashed. The trailer presents a fairly predictable narrative, which might appeal to those already enamored with it, but those look for something more inventive will likely stay away.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
