Release Date:

December 25, 2013

Synopsis:

From IMDb: “An office worker who lives inside fantasy worlds where he gets to live an adventurous life while romancing his co-worker sets off a global journey to fix things when both of their jobs are threatened.”

Poster: B+ (10)

Review: The marketing effort for this film was superbly done, showcasing Walter Mitty in all his myriad fantasy locations across the globe and even on the moon, never resting idly from one design to the next. The same aesthetic is carried through to the two French designs (#9 & #10).

Trailer: B-

Review: The trailer definitely builds this as a holiday treat for audiences with an imagination. However, part of me suspects another Night at the Museum that focuses less on philosophical questions and more on entertaining the audience. Entertainment isn’t bad, but the story of Walter Mitty has a lot of potential for deep thought that could easily be subsumed by poor writing. This trailer doesn’t tells us quite which direction it’s going to go, though.

Oscar Prospects:

There’s chatter that the film could nab some nominations, but outside of the tech categories, I can’t see anything else.
