Review: (#1) A generic, poster of a field and contemplation. It’s only a narrow distance between this design and Tomorrowland‘s. They don’t equate other than a loose connection to futurism.

(#2) Asa Butterfield’s expression alone causes problems for this poster. The backdrop isn’t that spectacular either, not compared to the third design. (#3) While the starry backdrop isn’t likely accurate, the overall design of the poster is visually pleasing, which make it at least something you wouldn’t mind hanging on your wall.

Trailer Rating: C- / B / B-

Review: (#1) When you try to convince the audience that the romance between a boy and girl is doomed because he can never live on earth, you set up a not-so-scorching melodrama with only one option for an ending and that predictability doesn’t make the film much fun.

(#2) Getting out from behind the science isn’t something I would normally recommend for a film like this, but audiences aren’t going to respond well to the mechanics of the story, just that they are going to get something emotionally conductive. This trailer does a better job setting that up, though almost all of the scientific explanations are removed, which doesn’t bode well for its positioning as a strong sci-fi flick.

(#3) This presumably final trailer might give us an idea of what’s going on, but it is filled with such cheesy coming-of-age romantic hogwash that it can’t have much appeal beyond tweens, which may be all the studio cares about at this point.

Oscar Prospects:

Will there be some measure of yammering about the film being an Oscar contender? Possibly. Will it materialize in any meaningful way? Doubtful.
