Review: The wrinkled backdrop adds a certain measure of thematic depth and the expressions on the actors’ faces play into that. The problem really is that the composition itself is almost lifeless and considering a title like Wildlife, one would expect it to be a teensy bit more exciting.

Trailer Rating: B- / C+ / B

Review: (#1) There isn’t enough information in this trailer to give the audience a general sense of why it’s important or significant. The performances of Jake Gyllenhaal and especially Carey Mulligan make it seem like something worth giving consideration to even if the trailer doesn’t sell itself that well.

(#2) While trying to play up its indie bona fides, the trailer’s makers seem to have forgotten that they need to make a film people want to watch. This trailer doesn’t do that very well.

(#3) More plot information will certainly help enthuse audiences about this film, though it still feels like a movie that’s destined to fade by the wayside as other more energetic films overtake it.

Oscar Prospects:

With Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal in a fairly dramatic role, this could be an Oscar contender. It’s October release might be too early for an indie release to gain traction, or it might be perfect timing.
