Last Week's Results

What a dud of a weekend. Although Argo is in its third frame, it claimed the top spot of the box office this week dropping less than 30% as word of mouth continues to keep the film floating above a raft of new and heavily disappointing new releases. Tops among them was Cloud Atlas, a sprawling epic about love and social justice streaming through the fabric of time. Although a sub-$10 million opening isn't great, it's 3-hour running time didn't help it build a big chest of money. Its performance next week will be better indicative of whether it has any legs. Meanwhile, the week's other new releases, Silent Hill: Revelation, Fun Size, and Chasing Mavericks performed even more poorly, with the Gerard Butler film failing to even place in the top 10.
