When initial Friday figures came in, the $80 million finish seemed to poise The Avengers to come in second to prior record-breaker Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 in the coveted Top All-Time Opening Weekend contest, but when it was announced that Avengers not only passed Potter, but blew past him to the tune of $200 million, discussion from years ago about the future of $200 million openings became fully realized. But apparently those numbers were conservative because when all was said and done, Avengers had amassed a staggering $207 million in its opening weekend. Amazing.
