After the success of its predecessor, The Huntsman: Winter’s War is looking to make a box office impact in order to justify its creation. While there’s no guarantee it can top the second weekend of The Jungle Book, a lot will be riding on it to do so. It has no other competition for the top of the box office.

Our Highest Rated Films: A Hologram for the King, The Meddler, Tale of Tales

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks horrendously corny.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like an extended skit with two very miscast actors.
Tripp Burton (TB): This cast is an interesting one, but I’m not sure if there is much else going on here.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The actors look nothing like the characters they are playing, but the trailer sure looks like fun.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): My sole interest lies in the cast as the film doesn’t look that appealing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Does anyone really want to see a prequel to a Snow White movie without Snow White?
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a very dull and unnecessary prequel to a very dull and unnecessary film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Beautiful images, but consensus says a truly weak storyline. Probably a sequel/prequel that should not have been made.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be amusing. It could be cheap. There’s no way to tell for sure from the trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Action movie parody doesn’t look too promising.
Tripp Burton (TB): This would be dumb in English and it still looks dumb in Spanish.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Indie film that has some humorous points in the trailer. Might be worth seeing, but probably at home.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Only one director do I tolerate anime from and that’s Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki this ain’t.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Animated sci-fi thriller looks interesting, but why only a two-day run on April 19th and 20th?
Tripp Burton (TB): A not very interesting premise that looks to be executed in a not very interesting way.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Beautiful animation. A variation on the Frankenstein tale that might prove interesting.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Conceptually, I should like it. However, the trailer leaves me questioning that thesis.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This horror comedy anthology looks flat.
Tripp Burton (TB): These horror anthologies are becoming frequent and tend to have more misses than hits.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): An incomprehensible trailer does nothing to make me want to see this film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t look that interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): East-meets-West drama looks like one of Tom Hanks’ lesser efforts.
Tripp Burton (TB): When was the last time a Tom Hanks movie flew this far under the radar? That can’t be a good sign, especially when it is based on a popular book.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Tom Hanks is a reliable actor, but Hologram does not look like anything new or that exciting to see.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Sarandon could be doing so much better work, but isn’t.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Mother-daughter comedy-drama doesn’t look like it breaks any new ground.
Tripp Burton (TB): Some good buzz from last years’ festivals makes this one to check out, especially if Susan Sarandon is getting her best role in years.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Susan Sarandon looks charming as a meddling mother, though it also looks like a rather slight if enjoyable film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Sometimes, I don’t mind cornball flicks. This just seems too far out there for even my tastes.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Danish black comedy looks like it could be fun.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’m not sure what this is, but it looks bizarre enough that it might be worth checking out.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There are some humorous moments in the trailer, but it looks more like bad slapstick the longer it goes on. Some reviewers like it, but I am withholding judgment for the moment.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Women are oppressed enough as it is, you don’t need to oppress them further just to give them a feeling of enlightenment.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting looking Swiss-Italian film about a woman who has lived her life as a man wanting to live as a woman again.
Tripp Burton (TB): This certainly looks different, although I’m not sure it is my cup of tea.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This transgender story from Albania could be really interesting, though it is hard to totally tell from the trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve heard good things, but that’s not enough to get me out to watch it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting looking fantasy horror film could be a breakout hit.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a very different take on the fairy tale trope, but I’m not sure I need another one of those.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer did not excite me, but most of the early reviews are good, so this fantastical film might be worth seeing.
