Looking at the Weekend: Aug. 3-5, 2012

There isn’t much in the landscape that could topple Total Recall. The Dark Knight Rises has been performing poorly as a holdover, but that may have more to do with the shooting than any perceived weakness, but since most seem to feel this is an inferior product to the prior film, that could explain it. Total Recall should easily pass Christopher Nolan’s film even with its lowest estimates.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days: This kind of film appeals to an audience that does not correspond with our tastes.
Total Recall: Remaking older films doesn’t endear them to us, but they can still be mildly entertaining.
Celeste and Jesse Forever: It will undoubtedly be a minor indie romcom hit, but not one that breaks out into the popular culture.
