Labor Day weekend is one of the worst attended weekends of every year and this looks to be no exception. Holdover Crazy Rich Asians is likely to top the charts for a third week while Kin will struggle to make money. Operation Finale might be a surprisingly strong choice for the weekend as it’s unlikely to appeal to the demographic that typically abandons this particular weekend and might draw those who don’t have any reason to celebrate the final weekend of the summer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be interesting, but the premise seems so dull.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like an odd mixture of sci-fi, action, and comedy with an underlying message of family togetherness.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like the sort of generic stuff that usually trickles out in August and September.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does make it seem more family drama related rather than just sci/fi, but unfortunately it does not do a great job of exciting me for either part of the film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It feels like a more subdued version of Munich and Spielberg’s film was already fairly subdued. The territory seems somewhat, but also somewhat dated.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Seen it all before. This is the latest in a long list of films about the hunt for Eichmann made from 1961 on.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks well-made but ultimately unnecessary.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This should be a gripping movie, but the trailer does not make it seem that interesting or exciting.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This isn’t my kind of film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a hokey mix of martial arts and classroom drama.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’m not a martial arts film fan.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The story of a tough guy becoming a teacher has been done many times before, but this looks weaker and more violent than most.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Horror comedies are a rare treat and this has potential.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Horror movie spoof doesn’t look much better than the films it’s supposed to be spoofing.
Tripp Burton (TB): I feel like I have seen this many times before.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There is some humor in the trailer, but I have a feeling that it will run out before the movie is done.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks rather quirky and interesting, though I have my reservations.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Classy looking horror movie with an A-list cast from the director of Room.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ve waited eagerly for Lenny Abrahamson’s follow-up to Room, but this doesn’t look too appealing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not exude a horror feeling, but one feels that the movie might be better than it at conveying unease and terror.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Formulaic sure, but it might be charming.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Family comedy could be sweet or saccharine, hard to tell from the trailer.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks average.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The premise of a young child trying to get his parents back together has been done before, though this has a big twist. Still it may just be too sweet for its own good.
