Another weekend lacking in new releases. A new box office champion will be crowned as In the Heart of the Sea will be the top new release even if it’s a box office dud, which is also possible.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Ron Howard has an uneven history of filmmaking and this looks like little more than a Moby Dick version of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Long-delayed Ron Howard film about the legend that spawned Moby Dick looks like a tough sell.
Tripp Burton (TB): This has been flying way under the radar, and I don’t even know what to think about it.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It sounds like it is not nearly as rousing a tale as it should be, but it probably is still worth seeing.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The cast is the only thing that makes this film look like it could be interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Film about the 2008 financial crisis may be too cerebral for some, too cynical for others but the star-studded cast could pique interest.
Tripp Burton (TB): I think this looks like a lot of fun, but word has been mixed, so I’m curious to see what it looks like in the end.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This film about the financial meltdown holds promise and supposedly lots of good character parts.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This just doesn’t look at all interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Scary looking thriller might play better on home video.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a mess.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Nothing about this trailer from a violent movie about two sisters who recently found each other made me want to see it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Could be interesting, but I’m not sure the animation style matches my interests.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting looking animated Brazilian film albeit not one likely to have them lining up around the corner.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks fun, but not much more than that.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): GKids may have a winner with this simply drawn, Brazilian film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks passably interesting, but not more so than the hundreds of other films I have an actual interest in watching.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Religious satire could be hit or miss, here’s hoping it’s the former.
Tripp Burton (TB): I really don’t get Jared Hess’ sense of humor, so I will skip this one.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It just felt like the cast and director were trying too hard to find laughs.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The jumbled, modestly confused trailer doesn’t make it look very good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Minor looking comedy could be worth catching on home video.
Tripp Burton (TB): Looks interesting, but I will wait to watch it at home.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The story of an author stealing ideas from a young girl could create an interesting movie.
