The race for #1 this weekend is going to be tight. While I ultimately think The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will come out on top with The Hobbit‘s third week and the debut of The Wolf of Wall Street chomping at its heels. The big issue is whether any of the films will burn off too much attention debuting on Wednesday instead of the normal Friday. Holdovers have a better shot at staying number one in those situations, but I think it will be tight. Even American Hustle or Grudge Match could prove more appealing.

Individual Commentaries

Wesley Lovell: Apart from my interest in the latest Martin Scorsese film, the wide releases aren’t particularly appetizing. Even the specialty box office doesn’t look that exciting with August: Osage County having the sheer star power to seem the most appealing.
Peter J. Patrick: The last of the big holiday releases are here – enjoy!
