Another weekend with only one major new release. Office Christmas Party will be that top release and, depending on how its popularity shakes out, it could top Moana in its third weekend, but it might be close. A separate note: this is the first time in my memory (not entirely reliable) that a film has earned perfect tens from our contributors for both personal viewing rating and Oscar rating.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks like a fun time-waster.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I decline the invitation.
Tripp Burton (TB): The trailer looks painfully unfunny to me, but it might appeal to a lot of people out there more into this brand of comedy.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like a lame comedy and not one I need to see.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This formulaic rom-com doesn’t look terribly exciting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Charming looking rom-com could be a sleeper hit.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a fine genre film, but there is too much other stuff out there this holiday season to check out first.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Starring two of my favorite working actors, this modern-set musical looks like it could be a real charmer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): One of the year’s most highly anticipated films could easily snare 13 Oscar nominations including 2 for Best Song.
Tripp Burton (TB): This should be one of the biggest awards contenders of the year, and I can’t wait to see it.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): An original musical, whatโ€™s not to love about this. This romantic movie it the one that I am most looking forward to seeing this season.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The inventiveness of the story is hindered by direction that looks anything but.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Rather obvious cautionary tale looks like a tough one to sit through.
Tripp Burton (TB): This is going to get lost in the flurry of awards contenders and I’m not sure if I’m going to regret not catching up with it.
