There’s not a lot of competition this weekend, so Deadpool will lay claim to a second weekend atop the box office charts. The top new release is likely to be Risen, a Christian-targeted film that shouldn’t have much competition from the poorly advertised Race and the period horror film The Witch..

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It’s an interesting part of history, but not an interesting trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Historically important inspirational drama about Jesse Owens and the 1936 Olympics should be worth your time.
Tripp Burton (TB): This isn’t my cup of tea, but it could prove to be very popular.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Jesse Owens was an inspiration to my father, so I am hoping that this movie will do him justice. I am not certain that it will be that good, but I am looking forward to it. Jason Sudeikis does look like he may be miscast in a serious role.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve seen enough Biblical movies in my lifetime.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Director Kevin Reynolds doesn’t have a very good track record, but this inspirational Biblical film could prove otherwise.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a very by-the-numbers Biblical epic, with very little interesting going on dramatically
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I have a feeling that this will be a heavy-handed film about true believers and even an actor as good as Joseph Fiennes will not be able to rescue it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): In spite of looking mediocre, I’ve heard decent things about it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Horror film that received good notices at various film festivals could be worth a look.
Tripp Burton (TB): Word is that this is an interesting new horror film, but I’ll wait to watch it at home with the lights on.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Advance reviews are good, but the trailer does not capture any of the magic talked about in them, so I am unsure if I want to see this.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It’s already an Oscar nominee, but won’t win. However, being an Oscar nominee is enough to make a necessary watch.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This Oscar-nominated Best Foreign Language Film from Colombia should be worth your time.
Tripp Burton (TB): This picked up a lot of awards buzz, and a handful of nominations, and looks to be a solid film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not entice, but word of mouth has been good on this, so I am hoping it lives up to its hype.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The history sounds interesting and it doesn’t look a half-bad film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Indian film about the real-life 1980s heroine of a hijacking looks to be of more general interest than most Bollywood films.
Tripp Burton (TB): I don’t know what to make of this, but I don’t think very much.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The premise of a flight attendant saving the lives of a planeful of people from hijackers sounds interesting, especially as it is a true story, but the trailer gives away too little and does not excite as much as it should.
