The story of Sarah Winchester was turned into a horror film rather than a psychological thriller, so it’s hard to expect too much from fans of the legend; however, as a haunted house film, it stands to reason that it should do decently at the box office, toppling Maze Runner: The Death Cure, but not doing so very convincingly.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): While the Winchester story ha always been a fascinating one, this haunted house horror film just doesn’t look that good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I have no idea whether this will be any good or not, but the Winchester House was the no. 1 tourist destination for all my visitors in the San Francisco Bay Area for 30 years. Helen Mirren is the perfect choice for playing Sarah Winchester.
Tripp Burton (TB): I have wanted to see a movie about Sarah Winchester and her mansion for years, but this is not what I was hoping would come along.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): What could have been an interesting film about guilt and obsession quickly descends to be just another horror film. What a waste of Helen Mirren.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer suggests a film that could be better than it looks on paper, but it also has a lot of potential to be the opposite.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Impressive looking animated Asian adventure could be a hit.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks bland.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Some of the animation looks decent and if the story holds up, it could prove a worthwhile film. The one worrisome fact is that it looks like the release was put off for two years, which might be a really bad sign.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The film has received stellar reviews.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Chilean Oscar nominee is already a worldwide success – should be a major art-house hit.
Tripp Burton (TB): I have seen this, and it is one of my favorite films of last year.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I have mostly heard good things about this film and the lead performance, so it is the foreign language nominee that I am most looking forward to seeing.
