Four brand new features are competing for post-Super Bowl dollars, which could mean one of the top grossing weekends so far this year. Here’s what we think.
Consensus
Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.
The Eagle: We are split on being undecided and being certain not to see it (50%) and believe it to be an Oscar no-go (75%).
Gnomeo & Juliet: Another double-undeided/double-won’t see (50%) and another disbelief in Oscar consideration (75%).
Just Go With It: We agree not to see it (100%) or to give it thought with regard to Oscar (100%).
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never: Did you think we’d actually want to see it (100%) or that the Academy would even consider it (100%?
2011 Oscar Short Films: While we all agree this is a must see event, most of us will have to wait until DVD (75%). But considering it’s 10 short films all nominated for Oscars, I’d say this has Major Contender written all over it…it’s guaranteed to win at least two Oscars (100%).
Cedar Rapids: Count us mostly out (75%) and don’t bother with an Oscar campaign (100%).
Orgasm, Inc.: The subject just doesn’t appeal to most of us (75%), nor do we think it will appeal to Oscar voters (100%).

ThoughtsThis is the kind of film that doesn’t look nearly as bad as it probably will be. |
ThoughtsDirector Kevin Macdonald, like his late grandfather, Emeric Pressburger, tends to make interesting films, so I wouldn’t dismiss anything he does out of hand, but this one doesn’t look all that promising. |
ThoughtsThis looks like another horrible, ancient action disaster. |
ThoughtsA cheap looking epic. |

ThoughtsIt looks fairly juvenile, so I’m not certain if I will ever want to watch it. |
ThoughtsI’m not big on cartoons, but I’m a bit of a soft touch when it comes to Romeo and Juliet, and with a voice cast that includes James MacAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine and Maggie Smith, this one may be a winner. |
ThoughtsThis just looks painful. |
ThoughtsI might consider going to see this if the two gnomes commit double suicide at the end of the picture. |

ThoughtsEven if some of it looks mildly funny, my refusal to watch anything with Adam Sandler in it still applies. And until I catch Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love, that rule will stand. |
ThoughtsHas Dennis Dugan ever directed a good movie? If he did, I missed it. |
ThoughtsSandler and Aniston need to keep searching for deeper material that they can actually do something with. |
ThoughtsAdam Sander + Jennifer Aniston = No. |

ThoughtsLike Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers before him, I will not contribute one cent to the perpetuation of yet another tween idol. |
ThoughtsThis isn’t a movie for anyone who has thoughts. |
ThoughtsBieber fans will love it. I am not one, so I will skip it. |
ThoughtsThe thought of me walking up to the box-office ticket counter and asking for a ticket to see “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” is just about the most laughable idea of all-time. |

ThoughtsIt isn’t playing yet in my area, so I doubt I’ll have a chance to watch it before DVD if they even make it available there. |
ThoughtsMust viewing for Oscar voters. I’d love to see it, but have too much on my plate right now, so I’ll wait for the DVD. |
ThoughtsI catch these every year, and guarantee they are some of the best films you will see all year. |
ThoughtsIt might be worth a look, but I think I’d rather watch them online if at all possible. |

ThoughtsWhy this is releasing in limited theaters is surprising. This is supposed to be in the grand new tradition of Judd Apatow, so maybe they aren’t as confident in the genre as they used to be. |
ThoughtsLooks like a movie for and about simpletons. |
ThoughtsSome funny actors don’t look like they can save this dreary premise. |
ThoughtsIt doesn’t look like much of a movie. |

ThoughtsYou can’t always sell a film with a sensational title and I really couldn’t care less about the abuses of the pharmaceutical industry…because I already recognize them as corrupt. |
ThoughtsThis documentary about the marketing of “Viagra for women” was released two years ago in Canada without making much of a dent. Maybe it should have been released on a double bill with Love & Other Drugs. |
ThoughtsAn interesting premise for a documentary, but I’m not completely sold on it. |
ThoughtsI’ve never even heard of it until just now, but it sounds more like something you’d find on late night Cinemax than something that you’d go to the movies to see. |
