The horror genre hasn’t had a major player at the box office in some time and with Star Wars fading fast, The Bye Bye Man could top the box office. Watch out, though, for Hidden Figures, which proved quite a draw coming in second for the weekend and building buzz; and La La Land, which after its 7-award dominance at the Golden Globes, is sure to expand and pick up a lot of interest.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The film sounds like a rip off of Candyman. That doesn’t instill interest in my mind.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another monotonous looking low-budget horror movie. No thanks.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a low-rate horror film that I’m probably fine never seeing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is not scary and gives me no reason to see this film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks like the most awful, shallow, indescribably bad film of the year and it’s only January.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The hero is supposed to be a high school senior, but this looks like it is aimed at 10-year-olds.
Tripp Burton (TB): Not even my six-year-old found the trailer amusing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It may not be as bad as the trailer looks, but it does look mighty stupid.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It might be ok, but the release window suggests it’s meant entirely to suck cash out of those not looking for anything deep or competent.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Tedious looking generic crime drama. I’ll pass.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a very average cop thriller.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): An iffy cop gets involved in has son’s kidnapping and shots are fired everywhere. No interest at all.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Nothing about this film, good or bad, makes me more or less interested in seeing it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a Hallmark Channel movie with better production values and strong cast, but not much else.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks unbearable.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A sappy film about people helping each other and it looks awfully lame. Maisie Williams should have found something better to do with her break from “Game of Thrones.”
