Each outing of the Underworld series has opened to over $20 million, ranging from just barely over for the 2009 outing to $26 million for the second in 2006. The last film to release at the box office was 5 years ago to the tune of $25 million. Five years is a long time, but it should make close to that this time around. It has little competition. The big question is whether or not Star Wars will repeat. It’s likely it can since the $49 million it took in last weekend was a scant 22% drop from a holiday weekend.

Wesley Lovell (WL): I watched the first Underworld film in the theaters. It was so unenchanted with it that I haven’t seen a single one of the sequels. This will be no exception. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t look that original, but with support from critics, it might be something I want to check out later at home. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): This type of comedy has never appealed to me. The last couple of films of similar styles that I saw left me cold and unamused. |
