A trio of new films opens this weekend and, of the two, only one can be said to have a built-in audience already. The Purge: Election Year is the third film in the popular horror franchise, a strangely fitting entry into this year’s film race. It won’t likely top the charts, but it will have the best chance of not underperforming. Both The BFG and The Legend of Tarzan have had soft interest from audiences, so they may not be able to do much in the way of box office. Of course, it’s a three-day weekend, so it’s possible they could both do well. I’m giving the edge to the Steven Spielberg effort.

Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as I respect Spielberg, the trailers for this film just don’t excite me. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): This is a fascinating, if bloody horror series. I enjoyed the first two film, so this one is a sure thing. |
