The first film opened to $70 million at the box office. In 2004. That’s 14 years of inflation to account for. Had it opened today, that gross would have been just over $100 million. A sequel has been clamored for year after year since the film debuted. That should enable it to top $100 million easily. Finding Dory holds the current Pixar record for highest opening weekend with $135 million. Toy Story 3 is second with $110 million. The latter seems likely, but the former might be a stretch. However, it’s possible that since Finding Nemo opened slightly lower than The Incredibles a year apart, Incredibles 2 could also open just slightly higher than the Nemo sequel.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The first film was terrific, one of the high water marks of Pixar history. The sequel looks solid as well, but sequels can often suffer from bloat, so we will see.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a fun sequel to the 2004 Oscar winner.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first film was enjoyable, so even if this is not as good, it should be one of the better animated films of the year.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There are elements of the film that look interesting, but it also looks sadly predictable.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like an unnecessary remake of the 1972 gangster film best remembered for Curtis Mayfield’s score.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The confusing trailer did not give me any reason to see this film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): While there are parts of the film that look humorous, the gimmick will be a challenge to stretch to length.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This is based on a true story that must be more fun than it looks to be in the trailer.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This film just looks idiotic.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be interesting, but the trailer isn’t that great.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a low-key travel documentary that can wait for home video.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This doesnโ€™t look bad, but it doesnโ€™t look that exciting either.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This vanity project got bumped out of 2017, so I doubt it’s any good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): May be one gangster film too many, but should have a long life on home video.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): John Travolta may give a strong performance, but it does not appeal to me.
