Can one of the biggest hits of the 1990s turn into a big hit for the 2010s? If you look at Jurassic World for a sign, then the answer would be yes. However, with no advanced screenings for critics and a rather lackluster advertising campaign going on, the film could end up a dud. It may still win the weekend, but it may not top the second week of Finding Dory.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Matthew McConaughey’s ego is far too pervasive for this to look like a good movie.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dreary looking Civil War drama could turn out to be better than the trailer, but I’m not holding my breath.
Tripp Burton (TB): I like the people behind this, but will probably wait to watch it at home.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like an interesting take on a true story that occurred during the Civil War, though the trailer could have given a bit more detail to the story.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I find it hard to believe that the film will be able to live up to its predecessor’s weaknesses, but it might be interesting to give it a try.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Sequel to 20-year-old film opening without screening for critics means trouble.
Tripp Burton (TB): I have a lot of nostalgia for the first film, so even if this is unnecessary, I can’t wait for it.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first film was fun if hokey, and this looks like more of the same. The trailer shows great effects, though it feels odd to have a sequel so much later

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Even when he’s at his worst, Nicolas Winding Refn is at his visual best.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Potentially good horror film could go either way.
Tripp Burton (TB): The word at Cannes sounded like this is something to behold, whether for good or bad.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A very stylish and stylized trailer is interesting to watch, but gives little idea of what this film on the modeling world is really about.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Sharks don’t really do it for me and this movie doesn’t look like it can milk much out of its very confined story.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dumb looking shark movie – I’ll Pass.
Tripp Burton (TB): This feels pointless and boring.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Nothing about the trailer excited me. It doesn’t look terrible, but also not that frightening.

Peter J. Patrick (PP): Wan looking sci-fi drama – another one I’ll pass on.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks pointless and boring.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A video game that turns real. It is a concept that has been done before. It might be good, but was hard to tell from the trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Another foreign lingo effort that doesn’t nearly look as good as it should.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): A contemporary French version of The Searchers looks intriguing.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ve been curious about this for a while, but I will probably wait until it is streaming.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer states that it is an updated version of The Searchers, but the actual trailer says little about what it is actually about.

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer has both charming elements and worrisome ones.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): New Zealand-set comedy-drama may be worth a look on home video down the road.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ve heard good things about this and am excited to finally check it out.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is partly humorous and might denote a good film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer isn’t great, but there’s enough there to give me some interest in seeing it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This Israeli film about three siblings looks worthy or our time.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks fine, but nothing special and I’ll wait until it is streaming.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer tries too hard for laughs, but the story of three Israeli siblings trying to find their father does show some promise.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I like dachshunds enough to be curious, but the trailer just isn’t very enticing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): It’s been a long time since Todd Solondz had a hit. This quirky comedy could do the trick.
Tripp Burton (TB): This promises to be bizarre and I can’t wait.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is too cutesy and just does not do a good job about making me want to see this film.
