It will be a rather meager weekend following the $100 million-plus debuts of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom last weekend and Incredibles 2 the weekend before that. With two big blockbusters in their second and third weeks respectively, it will be a quiet weekend with Sicario: Day of the Soldado running away with the weekend crown for new releases, but struggling to top Jurassic and being in a race for second with Incredibles 2. The sequel to Emily Blunt starrer Sicario, the producers hope to take that popular film and turn its follow up into a successful one. However, it remains to be seen if dumping Blunt in favor of going with an all-male cast none of whom seem to be questioning the positions they are taking like Blunt’s character did will result in an equally impressive run or if it will be yet another example of an unnecessary sequel being driven to the marketplace when one was never warranted.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Without Emily Blunt, I’m not interested in a sequel.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Early word on this sequel to the 2015 hit indicates it might be even better than the original.
Tripp Burton (TB): I liked the first film a lot, although no Emily Blunt or Denis Villeneuve has me a little skeptical about this one.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first film was interesting, but not necessarily riveting for me, and this looks needless and utterly violent.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This comedy doesn’t look as funny to me as it should.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I have no idea what a digital episodic series produced by Pepsi is, but apparently this is one. I prefer Coca-Coca products.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks terrible.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer did not do a good job of appealing to me, so I will be passing on this film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It has an interesting premise, so I’m slightly interested, but not enough to seek it out at the theater.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): German-Israeli co-production has had a successful run at film festivals, could be a surprise hit at specialty houses as well.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ve heard bad things about this from the festivals, and it doesn’t look any better than that.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I found the trailer somewhat intriguing, but still not satisfying.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer isn’t impressive and the film doesn’t look like something terribly enjoyable.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): British farm drama might play better on DVD where you can turn on the subtitles to decipher the heavy Yorkshire accents.
Tripp Burton (TB): I like this cast, but this doesn’t look up to their talents.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The poster does the film no favors, but the trailer makes it seem like it could be a decent kitchen sink reality type of film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve been fascinated with Ben Foster for some time; however, this doesn’t quite pique my interests.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Early word is that Debra Granik does for Thomasin McKenzie what she did for Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone.
Tripp Burton (TB): It looks like the long-awaited return of Debra Granik will be worth it.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The father daughter story looks different than most and early reviews are good, so it could be worth catching.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Having first seen the trailer months ago, its content faded fairly quickly and while I’m not re-familiar with the narrative, I can’t say that it’s more than passably interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Expected to be released last year, the delay doesn’t bode well for this Jessica Chastain starrer.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ll see Jessica Chastian in anything, but this may push my patience.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Jessica Chastain is always worth watching, but I am not sure that the film will be as good as she is.
