The studios had hoped to compete with Tomb Raider in the way that Disney hoped to topple Black Panther with A Wrinkle in Time. Of course, we know how that turned out. However, it would seem highly unlikely that a fifth week of Panther could make enough money even to match a meager first-weekend performance of Tomb Raider. If that film flops, it would fall to Love, Simon to make a play for the top spot, which could happen if it turns into a bigger hit than expected.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like your typical faith-based bore.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): A sure bet for fans of contemporary Christian music but will enough non-fans be enticed to see it?
Tripp Burton (TB): This trailer completely baffled me (I didn’t realize this was a real song) and in no way impressed me.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is not bad, but I am not the Christian audience it is trying for, so I will skip this one.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): One of the trailers was quite funny, but others haven’t been. I’m still holding out hope that this gay coming of age drama is worth it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Good cast in coming-of-age, coming out story with comedic undertones looks promising.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like another solid YA adaptation, but I’ll probably wait for streaming.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I want to like this film, as a gay coming out film is nice to see. It looks heartfelt and maybe funny, and hopefully is better than that. If these can become the norm too, they should also improve.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I wasn’t interested in the original film with Angelina Jolie, nothing about the latest trailers make me interested in the sequel.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This remake of a 2001 turkey looks even worse than the original.
Tripp Burton (TB): I don’t think I needed this series rebooted.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I was not that thrilled with Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft. I do not expect to be any more excited by Alicia Vikander in the role.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A period drama that has the potential to be tense, but the trailers don’t make that seem likely.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Two lackluster competing TV movies when the incident was fresh in 1976 were more than enough.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’m not sure how necessary another film of this genre is, but this looks like it could be an interesting entry.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I remember a couple of television movies about this not long after if happened. The feature does not look much better than those.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer had some very funny moments in it, which could bode well for the end product.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Unfunny looking comedy that appears to be poking fun at the mentally challenged and sexual predators.
Tripp Burton (TB): This could be horrible, or it could be entertaining, I can’t tell.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It could be a fun coming of age movie among other things, if it stays true to its trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A clunky, poorly-produced trailer did not engage the imagination or the funny bone as it should have.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This might be good if not too frantic, but the trailer seems to be all over the place.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks dreadful.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might be a fun slice of life film, but I have a feeling that it will be more forced than enjoyable.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This historical drama could be quite engaging.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Remake of James Whale’s 1930 classic, a theatrical staple that might play better on home video than in the theatre.
Tripp Burton (TB): This is a great play, and could make an excellent film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The British version of All Quiet on the Western Front. It will probably be very good and well acted, but will get lost with its March release date.
