A dearth of family films for the last several months will service Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax well as animated films having free reign over the winter and early spring tend to do very well at the box office.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

The Lorax: It might not be strictly Seuss, but it should be loosely entertaining.
Project X: Money is money, at least that’s what studios keep telling us.
Being Flynn: We reserve judgment until we see it, but all signs point to it being a potentially rewarding film.
This Is Not a Film: It all depends on how you feel about A) documentaries, B) jailed Iranian filmmakers, C) experimental cinema.

It looks better now than I had originally thought, but whether or not we go to see it depends on my friends.

Thoughts

Loks to be more for fans of Despicable Me than Dr. Seuss.

Thoughts

These expansions of Dr. Seuss classics may do well at the box office, but they don’t get close to awards.

Avoid it. And I mean that because you would just be encouraging this type of film, which doesn’t need the encouragement.

Thoughts

A “Hangover” movie for the next generation. Why did they need to make this?

Thoughts

The Hangover Jr. may do well at the box office, but it won’t get close to awards.

It could be a small Oscar contender, but releasing in March isn’t the best way to go about it. The pedigree is there, but the film just doesn’t look that interesting.

Thoughts

The Weitz Brothers make interesting films. While most of Robert De Niro’s recent films have been beneath his talents, this may prove to be an exception.

Thoughts

Can Paul Weitz do for Robert De Niro what his brother did this year for Demian Bechir?

It would be interesting to see how Jafar Panahi makes a movie without making a movie.

Thoughts

Iranian documentary about a filmmaker forbidden to make films for twenty years so he made this documentary, which is not a film(?) I have no idea what to make of this.

Thoughts

Looks utterly forgettable.
